An incident occurred at the Santa Giulia Museum in the Italian city of Brescia: a visitor stumbled and, trying to keep her balance, grabbed a 16th-century painting by the artist Moretto da Brescia. As a result, the canvas was damaged.
According to the newspaper Giornale di Brescia, the artwork was immediately sent for restoration. The damage is estimated at several thousand dollars. However, since the painting was insured, the visitor will not have to cover the restoration costs.
The painting, dating back to 1522–1524, is a double-sided processional banner. One side depicts two unknown saints, while the other features the Virgin Mary surrounded by members of the radical religious movement known as the Disciplinati.
