Marten and faulty socket cause widespread power outage in Austria

A power outage over the weekend in western Austria left thousands without electricity, largely due to the actions of a marten.

The outage affected four municipalities in the Montafon region, with approximately 10,000 residents losing power on the evening of Saturday, February 8.

Local police reported that homes, businesses, traffic lights, and street lighting were all impacted by the outage. Full power was restored after four hours.

Upon investigation, authorities revealed that a faulty socket was responsible for triggering a short circuit throughout the electrical grid.

Additionally, another outage occurred in the municipality of Brandnertal on Sunday evening, leaving about 760 households without power for around an hour and a half. A marten was found to be the cause of this disruption, having caused a short circuit at a transformer station, as reported by Kronen Zeitung.
