Patriots Summit in Madrid may mark turning point for national conservatives in Europe

Thousands gathered in Madrid for the Patriots Summit, an event rallying Europe’s rising national conservative movement under the slogan “Make Europe Great Again.”

No longer on the political fringes, these parties and their leaders are challenging the postwar liberal order and positioning themselves as its inevitable successors. The two-day summit, hosted by Spain’s Vox party, began with private meetings before opening up to supporters and the press.

The Patriots Summit revolved around one defining theme: “reconquest.” This word captured the movement’s core mission—taking back sovereignty in Brussels and dismantling what they see as the EPP-S&D duopoly, which dominates European Parliament votes.

In a fiery press release, the group didn’t hold back:

“The Brussels elite has learned nothing from its mistakes and refuses to abandon its dream of turning the EU into a mega-state obsessed with social engineering.”

For the Patriots, the battle isn’t just political—it’s a fight to reshape Europe’s future on their terms

Despite minor disruptions—including vandalism and a lone topless protester—nothing overshadowed the momentous gathering. Leaders from Greece, Czechia, and Poland underscored their growing support, particularly among young voters. Portugal’s André Ventura declared Spain’s socialist government corrupt and predicted its downfall, while Austria’s Herbert Kickl and Argentina’s Javier Milei sent messages hailing the movement as an “alliance of reason.”

Czech leader Andrej Babiš took aim at EU climate policies, warning that the Green Deal was an existential threat to Europe’s economy:

“This is no longer about climate. It’s a fight for survival. The Green Deal must go.”

Dutch firebrand Geert Wilders, fresh off an election victory, declared the old establishment “history”, while Italy’s Matteo Salvini celebrated his legal victory over leftist attacks. Marine Le Pen echoed the sentiment, calling Trump’s resurgence a catalyst for nationalist movements worldwide.

Italian Transport Minister and La Lega leader Matteo Salvini took aim at the EU’s suffocating bureaucracy, blaming it for stripping nations of their power.

“Europe isn’t the cage Brussels built,” he declared, rejecting the idea that states derive legitimacy from the EU. In his view, it’s the other way around—”Without sovereign nations, the EU wouldn’t exist at all.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán delivered one of the most powerful speeches, likening Europe’s struggle against progressive ideology to the historic battles Spain and Hungary fought against past invasions. Turning to host Santiago Abascal, he proclaimed:

“I don’t know a braver toreador in politics than Santiago Abascal!”

When Abascal finally took the stage, the crowd erupted. He warned that as the Patriots grow stronger, the establishment’s attacks will escalate—but their victory was inevitable. Vox’s dominance among young Spanish voters, he argued, was proof of the movement’s future.

“They tried everything—lawsuits, violence, even murder—but we never gave up. And we never will.”

The Patriots, he continued, “are going to be the protagonists of a historic victory of the ideas of freedom and sovereignty. Forward patriots of Europe, without fear of anything or anyone.”

The Patriots are now the third-largest force in the European Parliament and gaining ground fast. With nationalist parties rising in Austria, the Czech Repulic, Belgium, Germany, and France, Brussels’ political firewall likely will not hold for long much longer. The next few years are pivotal, as globalist Eurocrats scramble to rewrite the rules before they lose power entirely.
