Berlin’s public transport workers have gone on strike, disrupting buses, trams, and metro services across the city for the second time this year.
The strike, which began early Monday, February 10, is part of ongoing negotiations between the Verdi union and the Berlin Transport Company (BVG). Lead negotiator Jeremy Arndt confirmed to dpa that metro trains, buses, and trams have been affected, while suburban S-Bahn trains and regional rail services continue to operate.
The timing of the strike coincides with Berlin’s first day back to school after the winter holidays, adding to the disruption.
A similar warning strike took place on January 27, as Verdi continues to push for higher wages. The union is demanding a €750 monthly salary increase for approximately 16,000 employees, but BVG has rejected the proposal, calling it “financially unfeasible.”
