U.S. President Donald Trump discussed the situation in Ukraine, bilateral relations, and global issues with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The conversation lasted about an hour and a half.
Trump stated that he and Putin agreed to initiate official negotiations on Ukraine and work toward ending the hostilities. They also discussed Middle Eastern affairs, energy, and the exchange of citizens.
The leaders agreed on close cooperation, including possible mutual visits. Putin invited Trump to Moscow. Trump assigned a group of U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to lead the negotiations. Notably, Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg was absent from the list.
After speaking with Putin, Trump had a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
