A fire broke out at a sewing factory in Rio de Janeiro that produces costumes for the carnival. According to Agência Brasil, 21 people were injured in the incident.
The fire occurred in the northern part of the city on Wednesday. At the time of the incident, people were inside the building, some of whom were trapped on the second floor. Rescuers evacuated all the injured, who were then taken to hospitals. According to doctors, 11 people remain in serious condition, with many suffering from respiratory burns.
According to the deputy head of the city’s fire department, the building was operating without a permit. The fire has now been extinguished. It is known that the factory collaborated with three samba schools preparing for the carnival.
