Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán praised the potential for talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to reintegrate Russia into Europe’s economic, security, and energy frameworks.
Speaking on his usual Friday morning radio show, Orbán expressed excitement, calling it a moment Hungary has long awaited.
Orbán, a staunch advocate for stronger ties with Russia, suggested that if Trump were to broker peace in Ukraine, Russia would reenter the global economy and bolster European security and energy sectors. He emphasized that this would greatly benefit Hungary, boosting its economy with the prospects of peace.
On Europe’s exclusion from Ukraine discussions, Orbán, who had recently criticized EU diplomat Kaja Kallas’s stance, reminded listeners that international politics is all about power and influence. He pointed out that Europe doesn’t automatically deserve a seat at the table – it must earn it through strength and necessity.
