Romanian right-wing parties AUR and SOS România have collected the necessary number of signatures to submit a vote of no confidence against the government of Social Democrat Marcel Ciolacu for a parliamentary vote.
According to Digi24, the parties announced that they had gathered a total of 125 signatures for the vote of no confidence proposal, which will be submitted to Parliament on Monday, February 17.
The right-wing forces have called on the opposition, including conservatives from USR, to support the initiative.
Romanians deserve a legitimate government, not one that serves group interests. It is time to respect the will of the people, stated SOS România.
However, the deputy head of USR, Ionuț Moșteanu, told Digi24 that the members of his party would not sign the vote of no confidence against Ciolacu. This means the opposition will not have enough votes to remove the government.
Earlier, right-wing forces attempted to introduce an initiative to end the presidency of Klaus Iohannis, who remained in office after postponing the election of his successor. Eventually, to avoid a political crisis, Iohannis voluntarily resigned.
