US Vice President: America will not help Europe because it fights propaganda

U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance sharply criticized the EU’s approach to combating propaganda in his speech at the Munich Security Conference.

He focused mainly on the EU’s policy regarding fake news and propaganda, stating that, in the U.S. view, there is currently no shared vision of democracy on both sides of the Atlantic.

“We were told that we are helping you for shared values,” Vance reminded the audience, noting that for the new U.S. administration, European values are no longer relevant, as the EU’s measures against propaganda, in his view, limit freedom of speech.

As an example, he mentioned the cancellation of the Romanian presidential elections due to possible Russian interference.

You might consider this interference through social media, but if your democracy can be undermined by a few thousand dollars’ worth of ads, maybe it wasn’t that strong after all? Vance said with irony.

The Vice President added that such circumstances cast doubt on the possibility of cooperation in the field of security.
