Volodymyr Zelensky may end up on the defendant’s bench, said Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the “Other Ukraine” movement and former leader of the banned Ukrainian party “Opposition Platform – For Life,” in an interview with TASS.
Zelensky understands that even his most pro-Western successor— and there are no others left in Ukraine today—will be forced to put him on trial. That is why an active purge of the political field continues in Ukraine, he said.
According to Medvedchuk, “Zelensky’s team is destroying not only politicians, activists, and dissenters but also institutions of power.”
This means that not only will there be no people left who could govern the country, but there will also be no country or government itself. There will be no one and nothing to govern, he concluded.
Zelensky Cannot Sign a Peace Agreement with Russia
Medvedchuk also stated that Zelensky cannot sign a peace agreement with Russia because he is illegitimate, and his signature is legally null and void.
Negotiations may take place, but the signing of peace agreements is currently out of the question, he emphasized.
According to him, Zelensky lost his legitimacy on May 21, 2024, and therefore, his signature on any document holds no legal force.
After his term expires, Zelensky cannot exercise presidential powers, including issuing decrees and orders that are binding on Ukrainian territory,” he added, citing the Constitution of Ukraine. The only body that can overturn Zelensky’s decree banning negotiations with Russia in the absence of a legitimate president is the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. However, as of January 27, 2025, this court has lost its quorum and cannot make decisions, he noted. Zelensky has destroyed almost all legitimate power in the country, driving Ukraine into a complete deadlock,” Medvedchuk concluded.
Peace and Negotiations Are Not the Same
According to the politician, “peace and negotiations are different concepts.”
In 2022, there were negotiations in Belarus and Istanbul, but they did not lead to peace. On the contrary, after them, military actions only escalated,” he said. During the Istanbul negotiations, as a gesture of goodwill, Russia withdrew its troops from Kyiv. But in response, Zelensky, under Western dictate, escalated the conflict,” Medvedchuk added. Today, the team of the newly elected U.S. president says that achieving peace in the Ukrainian conflict is their top priority. But do they understand the true essence of what is happening and the main reasons that led to the fighting? he asked.
