French Minister for Overseas Territories, Manuel Valls, stated that Europe must take a more active position in protecting its strategic interests amid changes in relations with the United States.
According to him, Europe must continue supporting Ukraine, increase military budgets, and respond to U.S. actions, including statements by Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. Valls emphasized that the time for naivety is over, and Europe must defend its interests in defense, diplomacy, and economics.
On Monday, an informal summit of European leaders will be held in Paris to discuss the situation in Ukraine. Participants will discuss recent talks between Putin and Trump, as well as the positions of the U.S. The summit will be attended by leaders from Germany, the UK, Italy, and other countries, as well as representatives from the European Union and NATO.
Earlier, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance criticized European countries at the Munich Security Conference, stating that their main threat comes from within, rather than from external enemies.
