U.S.-Russia talks in Riyadh concluded

Talks between the U.S. and Russian delegations have concluded in the capital of Saudi Arabia. According to a BBC correspondent accompanying the U.S. Secretary of State, the meeting lasted more than three hours, including a working lunch.

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov stated that the negotiations went “quite well” and that both sides agreed to consider each other’s interests while developing bilateral relations. Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), described the dialogue as “very positive and constructive,” emphasizing that the U.S. and Russia now have a better understanding of each other. According to him, unlike the Biden administration’s approach, this meeting demonstrated Washington’s willingness to listen to Moscow’s position.

The talks began on the morning of February 18. The U.S. delegation included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy for Middle Eastern Affairs Steve Witkoff. The Russian delegation was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov, and RDIF head Kirill Dmitriev.
