Sweden and Poland strengthen civil protection cooperation

Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday, February 19, during his visit to Sweden. The agreement aims to develop a strategic partnership in the fields of civil defense and civil protection.

According to the Swedish government’s press service, during the visit, the Polish minister will meet with Sweden’s Minister for Civil Defense Carl-Oskar Bohlin, Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer, and Minister of Migration Johan Forssell.

The main goal of the meeting is to further deepen Swedish-Polish cooperation in civil defense and protection, which will be formalized in a declaration of intent, the Swedish government stated.

Earlier, Swedish authorities announced plans to double the budget for civil defense over the next three years to enhance the country’s preparedness for potential crises.

At the beginning of last year, Civil Defense Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin and then-Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces Micael Bydén emphasized that every citizen must be prepared for possible threats.
