The proposal, introduced by Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah, aims for the U.S. to exit the UN and all its related agencies by 2025, alongside halting financial contributions to these entities.
Republican Congressman Chip Roy from Texas is also preparing to introduce a similar bill in the House of Representatives.
Lee criticized the UN, stating, “The United Nations has devolved into a platform for tyrants and a venue to attack America and her allies. We should stop paying for it. As President Trump revolutionizes our foreign policy by putting America first, we should withdraw from this sham organization and prioritize real alliances that keep our country safe and prosperous.”
Chip Roy echoed these sentiments, arguing that the UN has failed to provide any meaningful results.
“Despite all of the money and the attention, this corrupt globalist organization has, for decades, failed to prevent wars, genocides, human rights violations and even pandemics,” he stated, also referencing a scandal involving the UN agency supporting Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) and potential links to the Hamas attack on Israel.
The bill has gained support from about a dozen other Republican members of Congress.
