U.S. and Ukraine may sign agreement on access to oilfields on Feb. 22

The United States and Ukraine may sign an agreement granting access to Ukrainian mineral deposits as early as Saturday, February 22, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources familiar with the negotiations.

According to the publication, the document is not yet finalized, but its signing remains possible. The exact terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

A source close to the Ukrainian government stated that U.S. Special Representative Keith Kellogg played a significant role in negotiating the deal.

Meanwhile, the Office of the President of Ukraine stated yesterday that the agreement still lacks provisions on U.S. security guarantees, making it premature to consider it finalized.

The White House, however, remains confident that Kyiv will sign the agreement soon.
