Ukrainian experts will begin working on an agreement with the U.S. on mineral resources starting Monday, said Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk. However, signing the document in the coming days is unlikely.
According to media reports, the new version of the deal is significantly tougher for Ukraine: the U.S. will receive 100% control over a special fund that will collect revenues not only from mineral extraction but also from oil and gas. The American side proposes setting the fund’s size at $500 billion but does not assume any obligations for investments or security guarantees.
According to Fox News, Kyiv has sent its amendments to Washington, but there are no specific timelines for further negotiations. Sources suggest that Ukraine may be forced to accept the deal to continue peace talks.
