U.S. President Donald Trump, in a post on the social media platform Truth Social, called on Elon Musk to take a more active role in carrying out his mission to reform the public sector and reduce government expenditures.
After Trump’s return to the White House in 2025, a new government body—the Department of Government Efficiency—was established in the United States, with entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk at the helm. The department’s primary task is to reduce bureaucracy, eliminate excessive spending, and optimize government programs. Musk was granted broad powers, including the authority to shut down entire agencies and departments deemed inefficient.
Since its inception, the department has already initiated a series of radical reforms. Most notably, it recently dissolved the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which had traditionally funded projects abroad, including programs in Ukraine, African nations, and Latin America.
The actions of the Department of Government Efficiency have sparked outrage among members of the Democratic Party, as many of the affected agencies have historically been under their control. In addition to closing USAID, discussions are underway regarding cuts to the National Endowment for the Arts, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and several environmental programs, drawing strong opposition from the liberal establishment.
