Spanish police have announced the dismantling of a major human trafficking network that exploited more than 1,000 women over the past year, primarily from Colombia and Venezuela.
According to AFP, the criminal group lured victims to Spain under false job offers in the cleaning and beauty industries. Upon arrival, the women were forced into round-the-clock sexual exploitation in clubs, with their movements strictly controlled and monitored via surveillance cameras.
As a result of a special operation, police rescued 48 women and arrested 48 individuals. Among those detained are three alleged leaders of the organization: two Colombian women and one Spanish woman. Most of the suspects are being held in custody in the Alicante region, with six of them placed in pre-trial detention.
Earlier, in October last year, 13 members of another trafficking network were arrested in Italy for smuggling people from the Middle East and South Asia into Italy and France.
