In 2024, gambling expenditures in the Czech Republic surged to approximately €39.1 billion, marking a 12.5% increase compared to the previous year.
Winnings paid out to players also saw a rise, reaching about €36.5 billion, up 12.7%. Gambling operators contributed around €851 million in taxes.
Technical games, including slot machines, remained the most popular category, accounting for approximately €30.8 billion in wagers. Deposits in this segment grew by 13.2%, with winnings totaling about €29.4 billion—representing 78.8% of all bets.
Sports betting followed as the second-largest segment, with total bets reaching €5.8 billion, a 10% increase from the previous year. Payouts in this category amounted to around €5.2 billion.
Live casino games, such as roulette and poker, saw a betting volume increase of 11.9%, reaching approximately €1.5 billion. Lottery games, including Sportka and scratch cards, also grew by 6.6% year-over-year, with wagers totaling around €1 billion. Other forms of gambling, such as bingo and small tournaments, remained relatively minor in overall market share.
A continued shift toward online gambling was evident in most categories, with internet-based betting capturing an increasing share. Fixed-odds betting saw particularly strong online adoption, with 95.8% of wagers placed digitally. Live lotteries, however, remained stable in their traditional format.
Additionally, tax rates on live games, fixed-odds betting, bingo, and small tournaments increased from 23% to 30%, while technical games and lotteries retained their 35% tax rate.
