Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, in his congratulatory message following the German elections, did not mention the winning CDU/CSU bloc or its leader Friedrich Merz, who is likely to become the next chancellor.
Instead, he highlighted the success of the right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD) and its leader, Alice Weidel. Orbán shared his message on the social network 𝕏 (Twitter), emphasizing that the German people had “voted for change in overwhelming numbers.”
I want to congratulate Alice Weidel on doubling AfD’s share of the vote. Wishing you success, and may God bless Germany! the Hungarian prime minister stated.
Earlier, Weidel reported that she had received congratulations from Elon Musk after her party secured second place in the parliamentary elections on February 23. Alternative for Germany achieved a strong victory in the former East German states, becoming the second most popular party in the country.
