This morning, a plane with 155 Afghan refugees landed at Berlin’s airport, including “local staff” — Afghans who had worked with German authorities before the Bundeswehr’s withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
The plane had departed from Islamabad, Pakistan, with a stopover in Dubai. The next flight with refugees is expected to arrive in Germany at the beginning of March.
The arrival of the new flight has sparked criticism from politicians of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU). Member of Parliament Thorsten Frei criticized the actions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by the Green Party, noting that the department is caught in contradictions: “On one hand, NGOs can bring Afghans to Germany without obstacles, but on the other hand, the deportation of criminals is impossible.”
