Musk called for elections after Ukrainian parliament votes on Zelensky

American billionaire and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk commented on the Ukrainian Parliament’s vote to extend the powers of President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Hold elections, he wrote on the social network X.

On February 24, it became known that the Ukrainian parliament lacked enough votes to approve the resolution extending Zelensky’s powers. The document was supported by 218 deputies, while at least 226 votes were needed. The following day, the Verkhovna Rada approved the resolution to continue Zelensky’s powers until the inauguration of the new president of Ukraine.

Zelensky’s presidential term is set to end on May 20, 2024. However, the elections were canceled due to martial law and mobilization.
