On the 12th day of his hospitalization, Pope Francis’ condition remains challenging. The Vatican press office, which provides daily updates on his health, reported that he had a good night’s sleep.
Yesterday, the pontiff resumed working from his hospital room, a sign of improvement following the respiratory crisis he suffered last Saturday. At that time, doctors placed him on oxygen support.
Francis is 88 years old, and as a child, he had part of his lung removed, making him particularly vulnerable to respiratory infections. In mid-February, he was hospitalized with an acute respiratory illness, which developed into bilateral pneumonia with complications.
Amid concerns about his health, the Vatican has previously acknowledged the possibility of his resignation.
