112 rescued migrants arrive in Livorno after operation off the coast of Libya

The Ocean Viking vessel, chartered by the NGO SOS Méditerranée, conducted two rescue operations off the coast of Libya on Saturday and Sunday, resulting in the rescue of 112 migrants.

The migrants arrived in Livorno, the largest port in Tuscany, on Wednesday morning aboard the ship organized by the European charity SOS Mediterranee.

According to representatives of the organization, most of the rescued individuals came from Bangladesh, Egypt, Somalia, and Syria. They were pulled from dangerous waters during the two operations over the weekend.

According to the International Organization for Migration, at least 129 people have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean Sea since the beginning of 2025 while attempting to reach Europe.
