The Czech Senate has officially approved a new definition of domestic violence.
According to the updated definition, domestic violence will now be understood as “any violent behavior toward a victim, in which, as a rule, there is an abuse of power or an unequal position.”
Additionally, the definition clarifies that the violence must have or could have affected the victim’s physical or mental health, freedom, dignity, reputation, honor, or private life. It also emphasizes that as a result of the violence, the victim’s ability to meet their needs or the needs of their household members is seriously disrupted or threatened.
