The administration of President Donald Trump has decided to terminate most foreign aid contracts, resulting in a $60 billion reduction in funding. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing a White House memo.
According to the document, the U.S. will cancel 5,800 out of 6,200 multi-year contracts funded through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as well as 4,100 out of 9,100 State Department grants.
Following Trump’s inauguration, the U.S. government had already frozen USAID funding for 90 days. However, according to AP, it is now permanently halted. Earlier, a court ruled to resume USAID program payments during legal proceedings, but the administration subsequently began terminating aid agreements on a large scale.
Additionally, it was revealed that the U.S. has ceased funding for the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), which, among other initiatives, provided financial support to Ukraine.
