Turkey open to contributing troops to Ukraine as part of peacekeeping effort

Turkey has shown a willingness to deploy its military forces to Ukraine as part of a potential “peacekeeping” mission, following discussions with representatives from both Ukraine and Russia.

This was reported by Bloomberg.

According to sources cited by Bloomberg, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov about the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine.

The sources stated that Turkey would only participate in any “peacekeeping mission” if it is involved in all consultations and preparations for its establishment.

Russia, which has publicly opposed the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine, has yet to provide Turkey with a definitive response on this proposal, according to the Bloomberg source. The source further noted that this issue is not currently a priority in the ongoing negotiations between Ankara and Moscow.

In recent weeks, European nations have stepped up discussions about sending a Western contingent to Ukraine to oversee a potential “ceasefire.”
