Orban: Ukraine’s accession to the EU is impossible now, it would destroy Hungary

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has once again strongly opposed Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, stating that such a move could cause serious harm to the country.

As reported by Hirado and Telex, Orbán emphasized during a Friday broadcast on state radio that he has numerous arguments against Ukraine’s EU membership.

At this moment, it is unthinkable. It would destroy us. First and foremost, Hungarian farmers and agriculture would suffer, then the entire national economy would be hit. I can’t even imagine how we would control the surge in crime that would inevitably follow, he stated.

At the same time, Orbán noted that his position reflects the current situation.

Earlier, he asserted that Ukraine’s EU accession would depend on the will of the Hungarian people, emphasizing that the country would not join the union against their wishes.
