Postal collapse in Germany: strike hits eight federal states

The Verdi union continued its warning strikes at Deutsche Post on February 28 and March 1.

According to Verdi, postal, parcel, and mixed delivery department employees, as well as service branch workers, suspended work across the country. The strike affected eight federal states.

These eight federal states were impacted by the postal strike: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Bremen, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia.

One-tenth of the letters and parcels that were supposed to be delivered remained undelivered due to the strike. The company stated that delays in the collection and delivery of mail and parcels occurred on February 28 and 29.

On the night of February 25 to 26, the Verdi union had already called on parcel center employees nationwide to participate in a warning strike. On February 27, delivery and service branch workers also went on strike.

On February 27, the strike affected postal customers in Bavaria. Around 800 employees at 37 postal locations stopped working. At the end of January, according to Verdi, around 13,000 Deutsche Post employees had already participated in warning strikes. According to the company, the number of strikers was 9,000. As a result, there were delays in the delivery of parcels and letters.
