In Spain, 25 individuals were arrested for creating and distributing materials featuring images of sexual abuse of children, generated using artificial intelligence.
This came as a result of an international operation organized by Europol, in which Spanish police officers participated. The arrests took place in Madrid and Barcelona, with searches also conducted in Jaén and Málaga. During the operation, 173 electronic devices were seized, eight of which belonged to Spanish suspects. On these devices, 16,800 files were discovered.
The investigation began after the arrest of a Danish citizen in 2024, who was managing an online platform for distributing such materials. Access to the content was provided for a symbolic fee. The operation was conducted under the coordination of Europol and the European Cybercrime Centre.
