Czech Republic discusses introduction of “menstruation weekends”

The Czech Republic is actively discussing the possibility of introducing “menstrual leave”—days when women could stay home from work if they feel unwell due to menstruation.

This practice has already been adopted in Spain and France, where women can take several days off each month to rest if they experience significant discomfort. However, the Czech Republic is still far from approving such a measure.

Czech politicians express concerns that introducing “menstrual leave” could lead to stigmatization. Instead, they believe it is more important to ensure that employees in all positions are given a day off if they are feeling unwell, without the need to seek a doctor’s note.
