Zelensky refuses to apologize to Trump amid growing tensions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has no plans to apologize to Donald Trump, according to a BBC report citing a conversation with him—though without a direct quote.

The report states that Zelensky does not intend to “regret what happened in the Oval Office, despite repeated demands from the U.S. president’s inner circle.”

“In Zelensky’s tone during the conversation in a cramped room in Stansted, there was nothing that suggested he was eager to show courtesy,” the BBC notes.

Zelensky highlighted that his long journey to the White House was itself a sign of respect and insisted that he “did not offend anyone.” He also said that the dispute in the Oval Office was not beneficial for either side.

However, the Ukrainian president expressed willingness to meet only one of Trump’s demands—signing an agreement on mineral resources.

Western media have reported that U.S. officials are pressuring Zelensky to apologize for the Oval Office confrontation. Meanwhile, Trump has halted military aid to Ukraine, escalating tensions between the two governments.
