France is working to reestablish communication between the United States and Ukraine in pursuit of a “lasting and sustainable peace.”
French government spokesperson Sophie Prima made this statement on Wednesday, referring to a ceasefire proposal from France and the United Kingdom.
“We have proposed a ceasefire. This is currently being considered in negotiations with the United States. France and Europe are trying to reconnect the United States and Ukraine,” Prima said.
According to President Emmanuel Macron, France and the UK have proposed a partial one-month ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. He stated that this initiative is part of European diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening Western support for Ukraine.
On Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X (Twitter) that Ukraine is ready to sign an agreement with the U.S. and negotiate peace. He also expressed frustration over a dispute in the White House that erupted on February 28.
At the same time, CBS News reports that the U.S. is looking to revise the terms of the so-called “fossil fuel agreement,” as President Trump now seeks a “better” deal.
