The 88-year-old Pope continues his treatment in the hospital after being admitted with bilateral pneumonia on February 14.
According to the Vatican, the past night went smoothly. However, official representatives of the Holy See have not specified details regarding the pontiff’s treatment. Pope Francis himself has requested transparency about his condition and regular updates to the public.
Francis is considered at risk due to the absence of part of his lung, making him more vulnerable to respiratory illnesses. On Monday, he experienced two episodes of respiratory arrest, after which doctors placed him on non-invasive ventilation. The following day, his condition improved, and he is now using an oxygen mask.
Due to his illness, the Pope has been unable to personally deliver the traditional Angelus prayer on Sundays for three weeks and missed the beginning of Lent. This hospitalization has become the longest of his 12-year pontificate. Doctors remain cautious in their prognosis.
