Twin suicide bombings target Pakistan military base, leaving 12 dead

A twin suicide bombing at a military base in northwestern Pakistan on Tuesday resulted in at least 12 deaths and around 30 injuries.

The attack, which took place in the city of Bannu, was claimed by Jaish Al-Fursan, a group affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban. The bombers breached a wall at the base before additional attackers stormed the compound, though they were repelled by security forces. The attack marks the third militant assault in Pakistan since the start of Ramadan.

Bannu District Hospital confirmed that at least 12 people were killed, including four children, and several others were injured. While the military did not immediately release details about the casualties, local authorities reported significant damage. Jaish Al-Fursan claimed that dozens of Pakistani security forces were killed in the attack.

Bannu, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near the Afghan border, has been a frequent target for militants. This attack follows a suicide car bombing last November that killed 12 soldiers and a similar assault in July, where a suicide bomber detonated explosives near a military facility.
