Irish low-cost airline Ryanair to completely phase out printed boarding passes

Irish airline Ryanair has decided to fully abandon printed boarding passes and has postponed the introduction of this change from May 2025 to November of the same year.

Starting from November 3, 2025, boarding passes will only be available through the airline’s app. Initially, the change was planned for May but has been moved to a quieter winter season.

The company announced that, from November, Ryanair passengers will no longer need to print physical boarding passes. Instead, they will be able to use a digital boarding pass, which will be available in the myRyanair app after check-in. Passengers will be able to download and share their boarding passes via WhatsApp and other messaging apps.

In response to concerns about potential issues with phones (such as battery drain, device malfunction, or theft), Ryanair clarified that passengers who experience such problems will receive free assistance at the airport.

The company explains its move to eliminate printed boarding passes as part of an effort to save money and reduce annual paper consumption by 300 tons. This change will also help decrease the number of check-in counters and allow the airline to quickly inform passengers about flight delays or cancellations.
