A Swedish court has sentenced an 18-year-old man to the maximum possible prison term for a minor after he fatally shot a man in the street in front of his young son.
The court ruled on the case involving the murder of 39-year-old Mikael, who was killed in April 2024 in front of his 12-year-old son.
The shooter was sentenced to 14 years in prison, the longest possible term for those who were minors at the time of the crime. Had he been 18 at the time, he would have received a life sentence. According to the final version of the investigation, the shooting was triggered by a remark Mikael made to a group of teenagers while walking with his son through an underground tunnel. The first shot missed, but the next two were fatal.
The convicted shooter was found to have ties to the criminal gang Skärholmsfalangen and may have been involved in illegal activities since the age of 13. The court also considered two attempted murders of members of rival gangs in the sentencing.
Three other individuals involved in the incident received lighter sentences for aiding the perpetrator under aggravating circumstances. They were sentenced to seven months of probation and 220 hours of community service.
