Trump is considering withdrawing U.S. troops from Germany and redeploying them to Hungary

U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly considering the withdrawal of approximately 35,000 American troops from Germany and their relocation to Hungary. This was reported by The Telegraph, citing sources close to Trump’s administration.

According to the publication, such a move could further strain relations between the U.S. and Europe. Trump, who has repeatedly criticized European countries for insufficient defense spending, is becoming increasingly frustrated with Europe’s stance, accusing it of “pushing toward war.”

Currently, around 160,000 U.S. troops are stationed outside the United States, with the majority deployed in Germany, where key military facilities are located, including Ramstein Air Base and the headquarters of U.S. European Command.

While no official decision on troop withdrawal has been made, National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes stated that U.S. military forces “always consider the possibility of troop redeployment to better protect national interests.”

Previously, Trump attempted to reduce the U.S. military presence in Germany by ordering the withdrawal of about 12,000 troops. However, this move was halted by the Biden administration. Additionally, Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO countries for failing to meet the required defense spending levels and, according to media reports, may reconsider U.S. commitments within the alliance.
