In Sweden, a former government advisor on national security has been charged with mishandling classified information. According to Reuters, the indictment was made public on March 11.
Henrik Landerholm has been accused of accidentally leaving classified documents in a conference hotel in 2023. Prosecutors claim that due to his negligence, information that posed a threat to Sweden’s security was disclosed, as its exposure to a foreign state could have caused harm.
According to the indictment, Landerholm left the documents in an unlocked safe when leaving the hotel, but they were later returned. Landerholm was appointed to his position by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson’s government in 2022, but resigned in January 2025 when an investigation was launched.
According to the newspaper Dagens Nyheter, in January 2025, Landerholm accidentally left four classified documents in a cabinet at a building near Stockholm, where a working meeting was held. The materials contained information that could jeopardize Sweden’s national security if leaked.
On January 27, 2025, Landerholm announced his resignation after the police began investigating the incident involving the documents.
