Denmark’s Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen, announced that the conscription of women into the military could start in the summer of 2026, one year earlier than originally planned.
This became possible after all parliamentary parties in the country lifted their objections to the conscription of women on par with men, as reported by DR.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Liberal Alliance, one of the parliamentary parties, announced that it would not oppose the legislation on mandatory military service for women.
In April 2024, Denmark’s parliamentary parties agreed to introduce female conscription, but two parties, including the Liberal Alliance, vetoed the proposal, delaying its implementation until 2027, after the general elections. However, the latest decision by the Liberal Alliance may lead to the conscription of women beginning in 2026, according to the Minister of Defense.
