Mark Rutte says it is possible to normalize relations with Russia after the war

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has expressed support for restoring normal relations with Russia once the fighting in Ukraine ends.

In an interview with Bloomberg, he stated that it would be “normal” to gradually rebuild relations as soon as the conflict is over. However, Rutte emphasized that NATO has not yet reached that stage and will continue to apply pressure on Russia to take negotiations seriously. He stressed the importance of further efforts to ensure Russia’s readiness for constructive participation in talks with both the Ukrainian side and the U.S. administration.

Additionally, on March 13, Rutte visited U.S. President Donald Trump. During the meeting, which took place after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement on a “30-day ceasefire,” Rutte noted that NATO countries are falling behind Russia and China in weapons production. Trump, for his part, highlighted that his arrival in office “made NATO stronger.”
