Over half of Estonians call for prime minister resignation, survey finds

A recent survey conducted by the Institute of Public Affairs reveals that more than half of Estonia’s citizens believe Prime Minister Kristen Michal should resign.

The results, reported by Postimees, show that 56% of respondents think Michal should step down before forming a new cabinet.

Additionally, 52% of those surveyed think Michal should resign outright and not form a new government.

The survey also asked respondents who they would prefer as the new prime minister. The findings indicated that 24% support Urmas Reinsalu, leader of the “Isamaa” (Fatherland) party, while 16% favor Mihhail Kõlvart, leader of the Centre Party. Kristen Mihal garnered 12% support, followed by Martin Helme, leader of EKRE, with 11%. Kristina Kallas, leader of “Eesti 200,” received 5%, and Lauri Läänemets, leader of the Social Democrats, received 4%. However, 28% of respondents expressed no opinion.

It is important to note that on March 10, the Estonian Social Democrats announced that their coalition partners had decided to end cooperation with the ruling government. Following this, representatives of the “Reform Party” and “Eesti 200,” which are part of the coalition, began negotiations on continued cooperation after the Social Democrats’ exclusion from the government.
