Sweden is sending an additional 18 Archer artillery pieces to Ukraine, building on the 8 previously supplied. The announcement was made by Defense Minister Pål Jonson during a press conference at Bofors industrial area.
This new package, which also includes five radar systems for artillery targeting, totals SEK 3 billion and is part of a broader military support package presented in January.
In addition to the artillery, the Swedish government revealed plans to boost Ukraine’s aid by SEK 1.4 billion, part of a total of SEK 7.8 billion planned for 2025. Like many EU nations, Sweden views its support as crucial to preventing Russia’s expansion into other European countries.
Minister Jonson emphasized that Ukraine is not just defending itself but acting as a shield for European security. Development and Foreign Trade Minister Benjamin Dousa added that the Ukrainian forces are protecting both Ukraine’s and Europe’s freedom.
Sweden’s total support for Ukraine now stands at approximately SEK 61.9 billion, a sum comparable to the country’s state pension budget.
