The border police of Bosnia and Herzegovina have issued an arrest warrant for Milorad Dodik, the leader of Republika Srpska, as well as for two other senior officials from the region.
The warrants were issued after the officials failed to appear for questioning at the BiH prosecutor’s office. They are suspected of “undermining the constitutional order” following the passage of laws by the Republika Srpska Parliament that prohibit certain judicial and police institutions from operating within the region.
The arrest warrant requires any police officer in Bosnia and Herzegovina who encounters Dodik or the other officials to arrest them.
In response to the warrant, Dodik announced that Republika Srpska would establish its own border police. Previously, Dodik was sentenced by the BiH court to one year in prison and a six-year ban on political activity for defying decisions by the High Representative, while the Republika Srpska authorities passed several laws deemed unconstitutional.
