Germany plans to allocate an additional €300 million to assist Syrians through the United Nations.
This was announced by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on March 17, ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting. According to her, the majority of these funds will be used directly in Syria, but the aid will be provided without the involvement of the transitional government.
The funding will be directed towards food supply, medical services, housing, and protective measures for the most vulnerable groups. Additionally, support will be extended to Syrian refugees and the communities hosting them in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Turkey.
After the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December 2024, Germany temporarily suspended the processing of asylum applications from Syrians. However, in January 2025, the German Federal Office for Migration announced support for Syrian migrants wishing to return to their homeland.
