Hungary’s ruling party has submitted a bill to parliament that bans LGBTQ+ Pride events and imposes fines on organizers and participants. This was reported by Reuters.
According to the text of the document, proposed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party, the ban is justified on the grounds that such events could negatively impact children. Additionally, the bill suggests using facial recognition systems to identify attendees of such gatherings.
Previously, in 2021, the Hungarian government banned the “promotion of homosexuality” among minors, a move that was widely criticized by human rights groups and the European Union. The Venice Commission later ruled that the law violated international human rights standards.
As stated by the Hungarian government, in 2025, the LGBT Pride event may only take place in a closed venue.
