French President Emmanuel Macron is set to visit Berlin on Tuesday, March 18, for a series of meetings, including with Friedrich Merz, leader of the CDU party and Germany’s future Chancellor.
The meeting with Merz will take place on Tuesday evening, though no press statements are expected. Macron will also meet with the current Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, on the same day.
According to the German government’s representatives, the primary purpose of the visit is to prepare for the upcoming EU summit in Brussels on Thursday and Friday. Macron and Scholz are also expected to discuss the latest developments in Ukraine following talks with the U.S. on a potential ceasefire.
