Starmer signals willingness to deploy British troops to Ukraine indefinitely

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has expressed his readiness to deploy British troops to Ukraine for an extended period, aiming to prevent any potential renewed Russian invasion.

According to The Times, a source within the British government confirmed that the deployment of British-led peacekeeping forces would be indefinite. “This will be a long-term commitment, it’s about years. As long as it takes to maintain the peace agreement and deter Russia,” the source said.

Defense ministers from countries in the “coalition of the determined” are scheduled to meet in London on Thursday to discuss the specifics of where peacekeeping forces should be deployed. Around a dozen nations, including the UK, France, Turkey, Canada, and Australia, are considering sending up to 30,000 soldiers to Ukraine. Other countries are prepared to assist with weapons and logistics support.

However, it remains uncertain whether peacekeeping forces would be authorized to use force against Russian soldiers in the event of aggression.

Russia has consistently opposed the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine, but French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Russia would not have a say in decisions regarding the deployment of foreign troops.
