Vučić denies Maidan scenario in Serbia, calls protest claims fabrications

Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vučić, assured the public that a Maidan-like situation would not unfold in the country, emphasizing his commitment to “preserve and protect” Serbia.

Vučić strongly criticized the organizers of recent protests, accusing them of spreading falsehoods. He specifically addressed claims made during the March 15 protests, where it was suggested that the government would shut down the internet and social media. Vučić stated, “they broadcasted through all their media, with an anti-Serb bias, that the internet would be closed, that social networks would cease to exist, because that’s what dictators do.”

He also called attention to what he described as the “biggest lie” propagated by the protesters: the claim of a sound cannon being used by the military.

“Then they made up a story about a sound cannon, they found this sound cannon and showed it, they showed it in the hands of a soldier, a member of ‘Cobra,’ but it wasn’t a sound cannon, it was an anti-drone rifle, a regular anti-drone rifle, because the army and ‘Cobra’ do not have sound cannons. There is no sound cannon in the Serbian army,” Vučić stressed.

Drawing parallels with the Maidan protests in Ukraine, he reminded the public of the accusations that former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych hired snipers to target protesters. Vučić added, “Here, too, they began to say: ‘Vučić, you shot at your own people.’ There were no injuries, nothing happened to anyone, but they had to invent something.”

Vučić vowed that an investigation would be launched, and “all those responsible for such gross fabrications and lies will be held accountable and stand trial.”

“There have been too many jokes and games about the destruction of Serbia. We will protect Serbia and we will defend it, Serbia will prevail,” he concluded.
