Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that he had reached an agreement with two independent MPs who were previously expelled from the coalition party Hlas. This move helped prevent the risk of losing the parliamentary majority.
In his statement on Facebook, Fico noted that on March 18, he signed an agreement with MPs Samuel Migal and Radomír Šalitroš, who left Hlas in January. According to him, the agreement will ensure a stable majority for the ruling coalition in the National Council of Slovakia. The details of the document will be revealed in the coming hours and days.
Fico’s coalition faced serious challenges at the beginning of the year when three MPs from the right-wing Slovak National Party left the alliance, and four members of Hlas expressed opposition to the government. However, at the end of February, Smer, Hlas, and the Slovak National Party agreed on governmental reshuffles that secured a minimal majority.
The new agreement signed by Fico could strengthen the coalition’s position and reduce the likelihood of its collapse.
